"New Beginnings"

My husband and I moved our family of three from Provo, Utah to Dayton, Tennessee in September of 2023. Although my husband, who was raised in Dayton, experienced feelings of returning home to familiarity, Tennessee was a foreign land to me.

The dense trees, rolling hills, and spotted skies became a familiar friend. A friend who seemed to empathize and reflect my emotions. As I drove through the untouched hills and under the vast blue sky, there were no buildings or significant marks of other human touch. Each day I drove through this untouched beauty, it was just the land, my new friend, and me.

New Beginnings is a portrait of my friend, who I now call home. Each piece uses watercolor, acrylic, or graphite to render a moment of connection with her.
